The Idea

Gendai karate do kenkyuukai (Gen ku ken )is a group which is based on traditional Karate with the object of study
and creation of new Karate-do and practice exercising and training each other, while
return to original Budo and has essential object of martial arts and its effect,
techniques and even also the relation to society in view.

While we keep up time-honored tradition of Karate-do, we removing bad old customs to
establish greater Budo.

We presuppose as follows to study.

1. Man is weak
fundamentally.
2. But Man wants to be strong.

Karate-do is one means for attaining this desire.

We have to clear our thoughts, what the strength is? What is the strength for? While we
are pursuing the Budo for beingstrong.

Now a day Karate-do has many schools.

It should be difficult to make up your mind as to which school or Dojo to choose.

So we explain the outline of Karate-do at present for understanding the characteristic of
our Gen ku ken.

Now Karate-do in Japan is classified roughly into two schools.

One is descended from traditional Karate-do since prewar.

This school lays emphasis on Kata(style).

They do Sun-dome(no-contact)They do not touch each other on the
fight.
People believe this means there's no risk of blow, but in fact, there is often.

Besides they can't proof if the trick would be effective or not in actual fight.

However, we should not despise its original Karate spirit that face up to enemies even who
have weapons.

The other school is called "full-contact" that strike each other actually.

This full-contact Karate is more adequate to fight actually.

Because it is easy to show a telling blow and finish. Full-contact Karate displayed a
proof of its power and gave us many certifiable data.

However, practically they are often prohibited from attack on face, putting protector on
for avoidance of danger.

But it conflict with origin spirit of Budo - study premising actually fight without any
prohibition.- This conflict may be the most difficult and eternal problem on training
Budo.
Only good points will be borrowed into Gen Ku Ken from these two schools and the problems
will be reformed to create greater new Karate-do.

We study concretely with fundamental thoughts as follows.
